The membership lottery
Being a member of the Gothenburg Art Association means that you participate in an annual membership lottery. About half of the membership fee is used for the purchase of art, mainly from exhibiting artists. This as part of promoting the artists who exhibit.
The association has a purchasing group whose task is to make selections as well as purchases for each year's membership lottery based on a given budget. This budget changes over time depending on the number of members and is decided before each year. The purchasing group thus has the board's mandate for the aforementioned assignment and reports continuously to the board. Before the association's autumn meeting - which takes place during the month of November - the actual drawing of the winners is carried out. The number of winnings is based on the number of paying members as of October 1 of the current year. For this reason, the number may vary from year to year.
The lottery draw is carried out with Google Drive under the supervision of the association's accountant Ingrid Arnholm. Members who have paid the membership fee as of October 1, at the latest, participate in the draw.
The winners are presented at the annual autumn meeting (which takes place during the month of November) and focus on current member issues in addition to an interesting lecture. All winners were also notified via e-mail or letter for non-digital members, with information about times for presentation of the prizes in the gallery and when the actual selection/collection takes place.
To facilitate selection of the prize/s, all objects are photographed and published on this website the day after the autumn meeting.
After the season's public exhibition is completed, current winnings are displayed in the gallery for viewing and to facilitate selection. Information about this is conveyed to the winners. In this information, notice is also provided with details of when the actual collection/selection takes place, which is during a number of hours on the specified day. The winnings are distributed among the winners so that the first prize winner chooses first, the second prize winner chooses afterwards and so on.
If you cannot attend the prize distribution yourself, a list can be sent or left to the gallery/office where it must be clearly stated what your ranking looks like. Otherwise, an agent with a power of attorney can be responsible for the actual withdrawal of the winnings.
If you do not participate - either by proxy or if a priority list has been left - you are allocated an object through the board's provision. Prizes that have not been collected within two months of the notification to the winners will accrue to the association.
